Bridge Work
A gang of volunteers within the Building Dept are working their way through the bridges
on the Broadway extension, starting with clearance work. After clearing the vegetation, the fencing (most of which had gone missing) has been replaced. Work
will start soon on re-pointing the brickwork. Where the brickwork is particularly bad, it will
need to be knocked down and rebuilt.
The gang started on the Childswickham Road bridge mainly because brambles and ivy were hanging
down about 2.5 mtrs below the bridge soffit. This has now been completely cleared, including
the deck soffit, abutments and behind and in front of all 4 wing walls, although the gang
are just about to go back and cut down a small group of trees 8 m to 9 m high, some of which
have branches overhanging at high level above the Cheltenham end, Upside wing wall.
The gang have also completely cleared the Tuck Mill Farm bridge, started the Little Buckland bridge,
and cleared around the steelwork of the Laverton Bridge, so that we could assess how bad it was.
If anyone would like to help, either with clearance, fence building or bricklaying, please email
John Balderston .
Work days are Wednesdays and Saturdays, weather permitting, from about 10 am to 4 pm.
