Completed Work on the Broadway Extension
December 2001 saw track laying north of Toddington reach just short of the viaduct. In all about 1/4 mile of track has been laid.
Both tracks will eventually be connected up into the platforms with a 'y' point near the viaduct.
May 02 - the unusual aqueduct/ footpath near Stanton was repaired by our bridge contractor.
Sep 03 - the occupation bridge just north of the viaduct has been repaired. Ironically it caused our bridge contractor more work than the viaduct ! All the wing walls required repairs, and have now been dug out and back filled with ballast rather than clay. Clay has
a habit of expanding and pushing the brickwork out. A new waterproof membrane has been added.
Aug 03 - Work on the viaduct has been completed. Frost damage to some of the brickwork on the piers has been re-pointed as well as one of the south parapets. All drains have been cleared out and vegetation removed. Damage to brickwork on the drains has also been repaired. A contractor abssailed off the sides to spray the brickwork with weed killer. The old ballast has been removed, and all the drains capped so that track can be laid down the centre as recommended by the bridge inspector.
Sep 03 - an access has been constructed near Stanway to help bring in materials for the extension.
